State Bank of India PPF account also provides stress free and convenient way of operating the account as it also offers online services. Now the deposits can be made in the account without even standing in the long queues. Online transactions can be easily done by registering with SBI for the same. The account status can be checked online and even funds can be transferred from savings account to PPF account just like any other bank account.
Important points to be considered:-
- An individual is allowed to open only a single PPF account in his name. If an individual has 2 PPF accounts, then the second account will be closed and entire amount invested will be refunded back to the account holder without any interest.
- A PPF account cannot be opened in a joint name and it can be opened only in name of an individual. However a nominee can be appointed for this account who receives the money in case of death of account holder.
- If no nominee has been appointed by the account holder, then the amount will be transferred to legal heirs on death of the individual.
- An individual can also open PPF account in the name of his children or minor of whom he is the guardian.
- An individual cannot appoint nominees in case of accounts opened on behalf of a minor.
- The first withdrawal from the account is permissible after completion of five years from the end of the year in which initial subscription was made. The amount that can be withdrawn is fifty percent of the amount that was available in the account at the end of fourth year from the year of withdrawal or at the end of preceding year whichever is less.
